President Buhari is Still Behaving Like a Military Dictator - Pa Reuben Fasoranti

Pa Reuben said, 'the reason we supported Jonathan, of course, was because he agreed to carry out the decisions of the National Conference.'

While briefing journalists in Ondo state, on the state of the nation, Pa Rueben Fasoranti, the leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, said Nigeria will improve, if the confab report is implemented.

On President Buhari's delay in appointing ministers, Fasoranti said “Let him constitute his cabinet and start working. As it is now, Buhari is still behaving like a military dictator, just picking on people. He should sit down for work. His cabinet has not met. He is running a one-man show now but let us give him some time."

“I think the President should sit down and have a package. He is just picking people here and there. He did not have time to settle down for governance yet and the time is flying,"  He added.

The octogenarian also said Afenifere will not rest until the confab report, which was put together, during the National Conference, setup by former President Goodluck Jonathan, is implemented.

Adding that, “The reason we supported Jonathan, of course, was because he agreed to carry out the decisions of the National Conference. The present government is not working towards that and when the time comes, we shall speak again. Unless we do that, Nigeria will not settle. That is, the recommendations of the confab."

Stop Protecting Fayemi from EFCC- Ekiti PDP Tells APC

The People's Democratic Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of shielding former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi from EFCC probe.
Former Governor of Ekiti STate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi

Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the All Progressives Party, APC, in the state to stop shielding former governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi from necessary investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for alleged financial recklessness.

PDP, in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo also accused Fayemi of distracting the commission’s investigation  through his recent utterances in the media.

This came as the APC described the allegation against Fayemi as a pack of lies, noting that the state governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose misrepresented the latter’s view.

The PDP said: ‘’Why is he coming out almost a year after he was voted out of government by the Ekiti people, when he knows well that some security agencies are after him if not because he want to mislead and coerce them to believe that he was prudent.

‘’We still insist that the leadership of the APC is hell-bent on protecting Dr. Kayode Fayemi from the searchlight of the EFCC and other security agencies because they know that he ran Ekiti government aground before he was booted out by the popular vote, which has been judged to be the most peaceful, freest and fairest in the recent time.

‘’Anybody or person found wanting of mismanagement of the state resources must be brought to book.’’

However,he APC in statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Olatunbosun, said: ‘’Instead of regaling in the destruction of Fayemi’s legacies, which presented the best opportunities for Ekiti State to grow, Fayose is not only destroying himself, but also mortgaging the future of Ekiti people through stomach infrastructure that provides a kilogramme of rice and three-month-old chicken at every Christmas.

”Fayemi’s projects presented the best opportunities for the state to grow,   but Fayose has been hiding under non-existent debts to deny Ekiti people needed development.

‘’Fayose said that Fayemi bought N50 million bed even when there is no N1 million bed in  Government House. He said Fayemi built the new Government House with N3.5bn while in truth the building cost N2.1bn and is the cheapest of such in the country, the same way he said that Ekiti bond was taken to plant flowers.”

Anti-Corruption: Buhari's Nominated Judges Fail Integrity Test

Majority of the judges nominated for probable appointment as heads of the proposed anti-corruption specialised courts failed the integrity test being conducted by security agencies.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-graft war is currently facing a setback as majorirty of the judges norminated for probable appointment as heads of the proposed anti-corruption specialised courts couldn't pass the integrity test being conducted by security agencies.

A major part of the demand for the job was boldness and avoidance of sentiments in judgement.

Thirty-seven specialised courts are reportedly being planned by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in all the states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, to solely and speedily try alleged looters. A source in the judicial circle told the Nigerian Tribune that the selection process is ongoing due to the massive failure of the integrity test by Nigerian judges. The source revealed a couple of judges who have been termed as the best successfully passed the test and have been selected for the sensitive assignment.

A fresh nomination process is under consideration currently to give other judges a chance to prove their worth.

An involved security source, "You know what judiciary is like in Nigeria today. The entire place (judiciary) is in a complete mess,” the source said, though it could not say exactly when the screening exercise would end."

The source also faulted the comment credited to Professor Itse Sagay, head of the presidential advisory committee on anti-corruption war, calling on suspected looters to take the advantage of its existence to return stolen wealth in exchange for reduced punishment.

“Either Sagay or his committee cannot make such an offer. It is not within their power to do that. That can never be part of their brief,”
the source added.

It also said that Sagay’s committee would do well by having an interface with anti-corruption bodies and other relevant security bodies in the country and know more about their workings before making any recommendations to the president.

Horny Man Rapes Widow to Death in Abakaliki

A widowed mother of four from Egwudunagu village, Amachi community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was allegedly raped to death

A thirty four-year- old widow and mother of four children in Egwudunagu village, Amachi community, in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ogodo Egede, has been allegedly raped to death by one Alex Nwabu, a forty-year-old man in the area.

According to DailyTimes, Alex Nwabu who is rumoured to be having a constant forced affair with the late widow visited her at the late hours of the night to ask her for a sum of N1,500 which she couldn't pay due to her impoverished status as an artisan. She was the sole breadwinner of her family. Nwabu then decided to have sex with her in exchange for the money which she refused. Reports have it that the suspected rapist threatened her and then forcefully had a carnal knowledge of her.

A family source revealed the deceased 13-year old daughter witnessed the crime and threatened to expose Nwabu which forced him to leave her. The young girl ran to her grandparents for fear of not being harmed by the fierce Nwabu. She narrated the story to them and the following day, she found her mother's corpse covered in a wrapper. An alarm was raised. The youths in the area assembled and apprehended Nwabu at his father's compound.

Nwabu was interrogated on the crime and he owned up. He confessed saying, "Mrs. Ogodo was owing me N1, 500 and when I visited her for the payment, she refused. I actually asked her for sex and she also refused. I later used force on her and I did not know she will die because I didn’t want to kill her.

"But she struggled with me, which annoyed me and I beat her up. I had sex with her for several hours"

The deceased has been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA 1) mortuary, while the suspect is currently cooling off in the police net at Central Police Station (CPS), Abakaliki.

Mrs. Ogodo left three girls and a cripple boy behind. Her last child is one- year-old and was still sucking.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "The fire is being treated as arson and an investigation has begun."

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson added: "We were called at 12.31am at Heath Mill Lane. At the height of the blaze we had 18 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackling the fire inside the commercial building.

There were eight fire engines at the scene and they successfully stopped the fire spreading to other buildings. By 4am the incident had been scaled back with two engines at the scene."
