Leo Ekpenyong was arraigned by the police at the High Court in Gudu District, Abuja. Mr. Ekpenyong appeared in court on Thursday.

He was charged for the alleged unsubstantiated allegations he made against top officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, while appearing on African Independent Television, AIT.

Mr. Ekpenyong had accused the EFCC of intimidating him, and refusing to investigate Mr. Akpabio. He had earlier threatened legal action against the EFCC, if it failed to investigate allegations of corruption against Mr. Akpabio.

Mr. Ekpenyong, who had sent several petitions to the commission, vowed to use every legal instrument available to ensure that Mr. Akpabio was probed.

In a four-page petition dated June 8, which was copied to President Muhammadu Buhari and sent to the online news platform, Mr. Ekpenyong had called for an immediate investigation and prosecution of Mr. Akpabio.

When the former governor was not charged to court, Mr. Ekpenyong took on the EFCC during a live interview with the AIT. He questioned the integrity of the commission’s leadership and expressed his loss of confidence in its ability to bring Mr. Akpabio to justice.

The commission later invited Mr. Ekpenyong on Monday, October 26, and interrogated him over the allegations he made during the television programme.

He was released after being grilled for hours.

DSS Places Sambo Dasuki on House Arrest, Defies Court Order

Popular media reports have it that the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki has been placed on house arrest by security operatives as they lay siege at his house to deter him from leaving the country.

Operatives of the Department of State Services are laying siege to the Asokoro residence of the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), reports the Punch.

The operatives, in two black vans of the secret police, were at the gate of the residence of the former NSA as of the time of filing this report.

Investigations revealed that the DSS operatives besieged the residence of Dasuki with the intent to prevent him from embarking on a planned trip to the UK for medical treatment.

It was gathered that Dasuki was billed to travel out of the country on Wednesday night through a Lufthansa flight but had to call off the trip when it was discovered that DSS operatives were waiting for him at the airport.

He was said to have decided to postpone the journey to Thursday in order to avoid any incident at the airport. The source said the former NSA was surprised when his residence was again besieged by operatives of the SSS on Thursday.

The source said, “The SSS are raiding the residence of the former NSA, Dasuki again. We really can’t say why they went there. They were with two of their operational vehicles painted in black and are parked outside.

"You know that the man was to travel to the UK via a Lufthansa Flight on Wednesday night. The man had to call off the journey when it was realised that the SSS had gone to the airport to lay siege to him. Then, this morning, they went to the house, nobody knows their intention for now.”

It would be recalled that the Presiding Judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, ordered the release of the passport to Dasuki in a ruling on Tuesday in response to a motion filed by Dasuki’s legal team but the action of security operatives have defied the order.

The reason behind their action is currently unknown.
