Oil Prices Rise After Saudi Arabia Cuts Ties With Iran
The hostile relationship existing between Iran and Saudi Arabia as a result of the latter's decision to execute a prominent Shia cleric accused of treasonable acts, has caused yet another problem in the oil sector.

Oil prices rose in Asia Monday after crude oil producer Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran following a row over the Saudi execution of a Shiite preacher.
Saudi Arabia announced the decision Sunday, a day after protesters ransacked its embassy in Tehran over the execution of Nimr al-Nimr. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair said Iranian diplomats had 48 hours to leave. Iran’s supreme leader warned Saudi Arabia it would face “quick consequences” for the execution.
Fearing further upheaval in the already volatile Middle East, the U.S. has urged regional leaders to try to ease tensions. At around 0610 GMT, U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate for delivery in February was up 77 cents, or 2.08 percent, at $37.81. Brent crude for February was trading 91 cents, or 2.44 percent, higher at $38.19.
“Oil started the new year on the mend, as Asian markets reacted to fears that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East may threaten the supply of oil,” said Bernard Aw, market strategist at IG Markets in Singapore.
Despite the rise, Aw said the persistent global crude oversupply would continue to weigh on prices over the longer term.
“Unless we see a convincing drop in oil output from these two nations, and the broader oil-producing community, the supply glut issue will persist, which means oil prices would remain under pressure for a longer period,” he told AFP.
Sanjeev Gupta, head of the Asia Pacific oil and gas practice at professional services firm EY, said that“continued adverse news involving the Middle East region could result in spike in prices, at least in the short term”. But Gupta added that the current supply glut would likely restrict any sharp upswings.
Saudi Arabia is the biggest producer in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which last month decided against cutting output levels despite a plunge in oil prices. Iran is also a key OPEC member.
Catholic Priest Sacked By University for Allegedly Having an Affair With 33-year-old Student (Photo)
A catholic Father and high-ranking university staff has lost his job after he was entangled in a compromising affair with a mother of two who was a student at the university.
Father Paul Rowan
A Catholic priest has been sacked from a London university amid allegations he had a relationship with a 33-year-old student, it has been claimed.
According to a report by Dailymail, Father Paul Rowan was reportedly dismissed from his job as senior lecturer and programme director of theology and religious studies at St Mary's University, in Twickenham. It came amid claims he had become close to undergraduate Charmaine Garton - a mother-of two - about two years ago.
According to the Sun on Sunday, Father Rowan is understood to be appealing against the decision, which was made in November. But the 47-year-old is also due to face a church probe, it is claimed.
A church source told the Sun: 'There are employment proceedings taking place regarding his dismissal from the university. Once they are concluded his future will be determined by the church. It is a matter which will be taken very seriously.'
Father Rowan, from Warrington, Cheshire, is popular among students at the south west London university, according to the Sun. One student is quoted as saying: 'He was easily the best lecturer I had at the university. He was very engaging and made the subject really great.'
The Liverpool fan, who once boxed for England under 19s, joined St Mary's University around eight years ago. Father Rowan did not respond to the Sun's request for a comment while Ms Garton said she could not comment. MailOnline has requested a comment from the university.

Na Wa O! See How This Fulani Boy Was Treated in His Village for Being the First Graduate (Photo)
A Fulani boy who was the first to gradate from the university in his village has received his most amazing treatment ever.
The young man pictured above has just graduated from the university. Being the first person from his village to ever achieve that feat, he was given a hero's welcome.
He is seen gracefully sitting on a chair that is being lifted high above the ground by other young men from the village.
There is no doubt that many might consider him a messiah sent from heaven to deliver them from ignorance.
Headies Organisers release statement on the drama that happened on awards night
Read the official statement from Headies Awards organization below...
Unfortunately, most times, Voting, Year In Review and Definitions Of Each Category, are generally taken for granted by many artists. We can also attest to, and hereby state categorically that, there is no evidence that any of the artistes aggrieved and vocal about their displeasure to the turnout of the award, voted in the 'Next-Rated' category, as our voting process captures email addresses and phone numbers.
We have ensured that the awards happened regardless of sponsorship, and that it gets better with each passing year, without giving excuses about challenges. We may not have gotten everything 100% right, but integrity has been our watch-word. The 109 Nigerian artistes that have won can attest to the fact that they did nothing different from those that have not. Awards by nature, are and will always remain, controversial except every nominee gets one.
We try to ensure that winners are within reach before announcing their category, as the whole essence of celebrating talents will be defeated without that.
While it is not out of place for an artiste or a party to vent their disapproval, we strongly condemn all kinds of improper conduct and the use of profanity on live television. In the same manner, we condemn provocative comments. In all, we see no use or reason for a disgruntled artiste or party to destroy valuable properties put in place to give them extra comfort before they perform or come on stage. This is totally unacceptable and will be addressed.
We congratulate all nominees and winners of The Headies 2015 and wish them a more successful 2016.
We are proud of what we have achieved over the years. The Headies stage has birthed the careers of many artistes who are of A-list status today. We are also glad that we have reinstated pride and prestige into the winning of a locally organised music awards and, we have celebrated artistic ingenuity for 10 straight years; a feat no other group before us was able to achieve.Every year, the screening team collate all creative materials released in the year in review and screen for nomination. This tedious process goes on for at least three months before the screening team comes out with a final list. The voting categories, such as 'Song Of The Year', 'Artist Of The Year', & 'Next-Rated' are left strictly for fans to vote and choose the winners. We wish to say categorically that we do not tamper with the outcome of the voting process. The limit of our involvement in this voting process is to advice the nominees to engage their fans and solicit for their votes. We do not accept any responsibility for failure on the part of the nominees or their record label, when they fail to do this.
