I Prefer to Die Fighting Corruption - EFCC Boss Makes a Stunning Assertion

As the fight against corruption continues to drag on, the EFCC acting Chairman has made known his complete commitment to dealing the vice head-on.
Ibrahim Magu

Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has vowed to fight corruption in Nigeria to a standstill even if it would cost him his life.

Magu made the assertion while playing host to a group of lawyers who visited him in Lagos to pledge their support for the ongoing war against corruption.

The EFCC boss enjoined Nigerians to support the current anti-graft war as the battle has entered a delicate phase where the vice is fighting back.

He said: “I am not afraid of anything. I prefer to die fighting corruption if need be.”

He also expressed regrets that some unpatriotic Nigerians, including senior lawyers, had “joined forces with fraudsters and those who looted our commonwealth by becoming coaches and technical advisers on how to escape justice”.

Magu also appealed to lawyers to be guided by good conscience and the interest of Nigeria when accepting briefs.

Obasanjo will be Next to be Probed by President Buhari - J.T Useni Reveals

A former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Lt-Gen Jeremiah Useni has hinted that the present anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari will be extended to the administration of ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo and Buhari
Nigeria's former minister responsible for the administration of the Abuja Federal Capital Territory under the Sani Abacha military junta, Jeremiah Timbut Useni, who was a Lt. General in the Nigerian Army, in this interview with Vanguard, gives his views on sundry national and state issues.
Below are excerpts from the chat;
Do you think President Buhari is upholding the rule of law in the way he is handling national issues including the trial of Nnamdi Kanu?
He is following the rule of law and I don’t know where he has gone wrong, unless you will tell me where he is going wrong. We just fought a war on Biafra and we now have peace, so for some people to come again and start reviving Biafra they are not asking for peace and you want a responsible government to just keep quiet?
Biafra issue had been locked up, it should remain locked up. May be that time the person in question was very young , he didn’t know how people suffered; we fought for three years so you can imagine the number of people dead and you want to revive that?
Recently, former President Obasanjo indicted the National Assembly, accusing it of corruption, as a senator what is your take on that?
He has been replied and I agree with the response. He brought corruption to the National Assembly with the way he was giving out money to senators especially when he wanted to go for third term. He spent a lot of money he can’t account for.
What Buhari is doing now, is like what Awolowo said when he was Minister of Finance under General Gowon and the government then put up a probe and wanted to go backward to past government. But Awolowo said no; new logs go on top of old ones, to get to the old ones; you must remove the new ones first.
That is what Buhari is doing now, trying to clear the new logs so that he can get access to the old ones; when he clears the new ones and gets access to the old ones, the case of Obasanjo will come up. So he has no excuse at all to say such a thing because if there is any corruption at all in the National Assembly, he was the cause.

15-year old Son of Late Obi Ofulue Who Died in Kidnappers Den, Installed as King in Delta

15-year old new Obi (King), Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I, has been presented to the people of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The late Obi and the new King

15-year old son of late Obi Akaeze Edward Ofulue III, who was kidnapped and subsequently murdered last month by gunmen, Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I, has been installed as a new Obi (King) and presented to the people of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The presentation of Obi Akaeze I followed the fulfillment of different rites that culminated in his crowning as King by the kingmakers of Ubulu-Uku. He was first presented to the members of the Royal family before the presentation to the council of elders at the palace.

It was gathered that the brief ceremony was attended by prominent citizens of the kingdom including the member representing Aniocha/Oshimili constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Mrs. Onyemaechi Mrakpor and the President-General of Ubulu-Uku Development Union, Comrade Jones Ofunne.

Also in attendance was the chairman of Aniocha South council, Mr. Isaac Anwuzia, traditional chiefs and title holders in the kingdom, religious leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders of the agrarian community.

Secretary of the Palace, Barr. Joseph Obazei who spoke on the significance of the ceremony, described it as 'wonderful in our time.'

"This is a young man who was not even looking up to this position because his father was young and vibrant, unfortunately this bad event occurred.

"He has now been thrust upon the throne taking up the mantle of his late father. Ubulu-Uku people are very happy that somebody has taken up the throne because the king never dies. When it appears that there is no king, there is already a king. That is what has just happened."

Barr. Obazei said that in Ubulu- Uku tradition, there were not too many rites to the installation of a new king.

"By our tradition, you can wake up in the morning and see the heir apparent sitting on the throne and issue orders which will be obeyed. That will show that something happened in the night and something has happened now.

"So this young man has taken over the stool of his father, and now he can begin to direct the town," he explained.

According to DailyPost reports that the hoodlums stormed Itubo’s residence at Rumuaholu community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, shot at the gate and damaged doors to force their way into her bedroom.

Confirming the development in an interview, Itubo said one of the gunmen was overpowered by members of her household, while two of the gang members escaped.

Beatrice Itubo, who leads a faction of the NLC in Rivers State, said it was possible that she was attacked because of the power tussle in the union. She urged the Rivers State Police Command to investigate the attempted assassination and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Narrating her experience, she said: “At about 3 am, I started hearing some noise with dogs around my area barking. I told my husband, then I became restless. In the next few minutes I saw them in my room. They used my younger brother to make me open the door to my room.

“As they were walking into my room, my younger brother shouted that I should run that they are not armed robbers, they want to kill you. So we shut the door immediately and locked the rest of them outside to battle with the armed one already inside.

“They were all masked but by the grace of God my husband and my younger brother were able to over-power him and unarm him. We have handed him over to the police. The rest ran away.”

Policemen from Rumuokoro Division in Port Harcourt visited the scene of the attack and took the motionless body of one of the suspected assassins.
