Social Media: Nobody Can Gag Nigerians - Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu has re-stated the inability of powerful forces to gag social media which has now become a viable tool of advocacy and activism in Nigeria.

Ovation Publisher and former Presidential candidate, Chief Dele Momodu has said that any plan to gag social media will fail, saying Nigerians are resilient people and will not succumb to such threat, according to the Vanguard.

Speaking during his keynote address, “The Power of Social Media,” at the City People Social Media Awards held on Sunday in Lagos, Momodu said Nigerians survived the move by erstwhile dictator, Gen Sani Abacha’s plan to gag the citizens, hence attempt by government of the day to ban social  media will fail.

“Any attempt to gag us will fail. It will never happen. Abacha tried and failed. Any attempt by any government to stop social media will fail. It is not about protests in the streets, or security agents going after you. Some of us fled this country during Abacha. I was involved with Freedom Radio, sometimes we had to broadcast using the phone. But with the social media, from your room, you can talk to millions of people and no one can stop you.”

The Ovation publisher also said that after the magic of electricity and telephone, the social media is the greatest invention by man. On how he became a social media influence, he said the journey started in 2010 with Facebook.

‘’I started using Social media in 2010, Facebook was the most common one then, When I got on Twitter not long after, I actually asked people to manage my account. I just past instruction that I want an announcement on the micro-blogging platform and it is carried out.

‘’But by January 2012, during the fuel subsidy protests, I realized how powerful the 140 character on Twitter has when I decided to reach out to a lot of people as I was the only one who carried a banner and protested in London, US, Ghana and Nigeria. I had about 13, 000 followers when I took over the management of the Twitter account; since then I have been addicted.

“The power of the social media is huge; you can reach millions in seconds. We are witnesses’ to what the change agents of the APC were able to do with the candidature of President Buhari,” he said.

 

He urged youth not to underestimate the power inherent in new media considering the reach influence people from the corner of one’s bedroom.

Television Hosts Present News Bulletins Live on TV Without Wearing a Bra

Some Albanian men will now be more interested in watching the news as Fire TV, a television station recently ordered its female news casters to start broadcasting news without wearing a bra.

24-year old Albanian news reader, Greta Hoxha, is making some headlines online and the social media is also buzzing after she presented her news bulletin bra-less with only a nude coloured blazer protecting her modesty.

 

 

Hoxha who is a presenter for TV station Fire TV, caused a media storm when she took the decision to have near topless women host its news output after the TV station ordered its female news casters to start broadcasting news without wearing a bra.

 

 

It can be recalled that she made the news herself back in November, when she chose to celebrate Liberation Day - which commemorates Albania's liberation from the Nazis in 1944 by wearing nothing but a skimpy waistcoat decorated in the national colours.

A mother is left with regrets of a lifetime after she was brutally attacked by another woman in a party that has left her face partially deformed.

A pretty mother has suffered horrific and terrifying facial injuries during a fight at a party. The shocking pictures have left her face scarred.

 

According to Metro, support worker Kate Nield was at a friend’s house in Southport on Thursday night when she suffered the vicious attack which left her with a big chunk ripped out of her cheek.

 

The mum-of-two who is currently in Whiston Hospital, Liverpool, which specialises in plastic surgery hopes doctors will help reconstruct her face again.

 

Doctors spent an hour performing a skin graft, taking skin from the back of Kate’s arm and putting it onto the damaged part of her face.

 

It was a horrible bite that left her scarred

 

Kate said: ‘We were all at my friend’s house having drinks. The more drinks this other girl had, the more angry she got. Eventually she was asked to leave.

 

‘But she came back into the house, and she attacked me. She was like a raving lunatic. She bit me and took a big chunk out of my face. There was blood everywhere.

‘My friend who was with me managed to get her off me.’

 

The attack was reported to the police and officers visited her in hospital but they are yet to make an arrest.

Kate’s friend, Keely Fletcher, has set up a GoFundMe page to help support Kate after her ordeal.

 

The bite has left her face partially deformed

 

On the page, Keely says: ‘My friend was brutally attacked by another girl.

She had her cheek bitten off for no apparent reason. She is now undergoing major plastic surgery.

 

‘Nobody deserves to go through this.’
